Rated 4 out of 5 by from Handles everything one puts it through Bought the bike 3 months ago. Very fun in mud. Could have a bit more power but it is a 850 and not the 1000.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Issues running through mud/water Put it In a mud hole and it did great Getting through until I got out my highlifter had loss of power (running on one cylinder) due to water seeking into the spark plugs. Take it to a Polaris mechanic and got told exactly what I thought I would “ it’s not a submarine” which the bike was not and never has been fully submerged. They have a snorkel kit on them for a reason. Mechanic claims he can’t find a problem so he’s going to write a report and have sent over to Polaris Themselves...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A real beast! Overall great quad! Tons of power, goes through mud with ease, handling, stabillity and suspension are A1. Can go long distances in dirt roads (outdoor temperatures in the 30 deg. C) without any signs of overheating which is surprising because of the big tires. Didn't have any mechanical issues at all (2500 km)! Was impressed buy the durability of the tires, almost no wear so far! I gave 4 stars because that I find when it comes to turn it around in a trail it takes many attempts due to that the steering doesn't rotate very much. But I also understand that it is less harder on the front drive axles and probably the power steering too, and its no big issue. Also it doesn't do very good on gas mileage (around 150 kms on a tank dirt road ridding) and when it runs out of gas there is about 1gal. left in the tank, when filling it up after it runs out, can only add 4 gal while the fuel tank contains 5 gal. Therefore could do another 40 km if was able to use the 1 gal. left in the tank which really means it is quite reasonable on fuel mileage. Again its no big deal its just a pain to carry spare gas. I know that the bike isn't really designed for that type of ridding either so it really deserves a 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Off-road machine I purchased my Polaris sportsman 850 highlifter edition 3 months ago, although I honestly had my eyes on another machine initially I do not regret my decision on the Polaris. I wanted a bike that was ready for the mud and the highlifter edition is just that with everything you need right from the dealer. The 29.5 outlaw 2 tires are a excellent performing tire in the mud, sand and anything else you may in-counter. In addition, the high-lifter edition comes with the radiator relocated as well as snorkeled. You literally don’t need to do a single thing as far as modifications to this bike if you are looking to go from the dealer to the mud hole (after the initial break-in period of course) The sportsman 850 has plenty of power and incredible amount of torque to spin the massive 29.5 tires and pull you out of the nastiest mud. When it comes to reliability, I have yet to have a issue with the bike with just over 40 Hard hours on it. Of course, with anything following manufacture recommendations on maintenance intervals and using the correct fluids with only extend the longitivtiy of the bike. I would highly recommend the Polaris sportsman 850 high lifter edition if you are looking for a turn key mud ready atv.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the bike, but would make changes I’ve had the bike a few months now. It a very great dependable atv, but I would redesign the radiator cover. The clips have already broke and I had to order aftermarket ones that screw the cover down, they work way better. I have trouble with the front of the cover popping up on bumpy rides, I’ve been thinking about putting some type of rubber strap to bind it down kind of like on a yeti Ice chest. Other than that it’s a very strong smooth running bike.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from excellent power I love the instant power. I can go from 0 to HEKK YEAH!! in nothing flat. I don't like the fact that all of the light sockets leak water. I have water in my front headlights and my back lights. I don't understand why high beams don't come with the 850 Highlander edition. Why is this not a standard feature? It is on every other ATV, foreign and domestic. You can't say it is to save money. you can buy a $5000 ATV and it comes with high beams.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lots of power! I bought this last winter to replace a thoroughly used Sportsman 500. I use my wheeler for plowing in the winter as well as hunting in the fall and mudding/bog riding when I can. Plowing with this machine is a lot easier than the previous machine mostly due to the optional tracks that I purchased. The traction and floatation is amazing! As the frost leaves the ground, I’m looking forward to seeing how the machine handles in the bog.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Some flaws I have had my bike 3 months now or little less and at 20 hours the rear driveshaft and u joint already crapped out and I took it to the dealer and they said this is a common problem with the 1000 and that Polaris has not done anything to fix this issue such as a updated stronger driveshaft . As of now go 20 more hours and go back for another driveshaft for 11,000 you would think this issue would be taken care of.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Happy so far I bought this unseen. The salesmen promised me it had power steering. When the bike was delivered to the dealer a week later it was discovered it didn't have power steering. If I could do it all over I would not have made this purchase for this reason.
